SAP Training: Navigating SAP
SAP R/3 TransactionsAfter logging on to SAP R/3, you select applications and transactions (also known as tasks) to work in.
Application: A program or set of programs that perform a specific function or group of functions. Examples of SAP R/3 applications are General Ledger and Accounts Receivable.
Transaction: One or more screens that when completed perform actions such as creating an invoice or displaying customer order status.
You can select applications and transactions by:
Using menu paths
Using transaction codes
You can select menus and functions using the mouse or the keyboard. The menus that appear in the menu bar are determined by the transaction you are completing. You see different menus as you process different transactions. Two menu options are always available to you:
Selecting Applications with a KeyboardIf you prefer, you can use the keyboard to navigate through menus.
F10 activates the menu bar.The left or right arrow key moves you to the previous or next menu, respectively. Each time you press the arrow keys, the next or previous menu is marked.
The down arrow key displays the menu. The up and down arrow keys will move you to the sub-menus. As you move through the menu, each application or sub-menu is marked.
The right arrow key displays the sub-menu that you marked. The down arrow key or the up arrow key move you to an application. Instead of an application, you can select another sub-menu if one is available.
Pressing Enter or clicking the icon displays the application. You can cancel or close any menu or sub-menu by pressing F10 again.
Navigating with Transaction CodesInstead of menus, you can use transaction codes to move quickly around SAP R/3. A transaction code is a four-character code that takes you directly to the first screen of a transaction.
Rather than having to remember a long menu path, typing the appropriate transaction code can save you time.
Every transaction has a transaction code associated with it. To find the transaction code for a particular transaction:
F10 activates the menu bar.
Select System > Status from the menu bar. The transaction code displays in the Transaction field.
Navigating with Transaction CodesOnce you have found the transaction code that you need, you can use the code to start the transaction in SAP R/3. To do this:
From the main menu screen, type the transaction code in the Command field and press Enter or click the icon.
Navigating with Transaction CodesIf you are currently working in a transaction and want to go to another transaction, type /n (the transaction code) in the Command field and then press Enter or click the icon.
/n closes the current transaction, without saving any entered data. /nVA01, for example, will take you to the first screen of the Create Sales Order transaction.
